Unico Hospital at the Heart of a Mother & Daughter Healing Journey

The life story of Ambia Khatun, marked by years of silent suffering; the tearful reunion of a mother and daughter long separated by time; and the child’s endless, selfless love in caring for her ailing mother all came together in a deeply moving chapter, witnessed by Unico Hospital.

During the unstable period following the Great Liberation War of 1971, a child named Duli became separated from her family. She later took shelter in an orphanage. With the support of a social welfare organization, she was taken from the orphanage to Norway, where she spent a significant part of her life.

Over the years, in search of her roots, Duli gradually began to learn about her birth identity and parents. Eventually, with the assistance of a Bangladeshi NGO, she was able to locate her mother and return to Bangladesh for the long-awaited reunion. Reuniting with her mother and family brought her deep joy and emotional fulfillment. Afterward, she returned to Norway.

Sometime later, Duli was informed by her family that her mother, Ambia Khatun, had become seriously ill. Medical examinations revealed that she had multiple blockages in her heart, several of which were in critical condition. For advanced medical care, based on the advice of relatives, Duli sought treatment at Unico Hospital’s Clinical & Interventional Cardiology Department, where care was provided under the supervision of experienced cardiologist Dr. Tunaggina Afrin Khan.

After carefully assessing the patient’s condition, a timely and urgent decision was made to perform coronary intervention, and a heart stent was successfully placed. Following several days of close monitoring in the CCU, by the grace of Almighty Allah, she recovered fully.

১৯৭১ সালের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধ পরবর্তী অস্থির সময়ে ডুলি নামে এক শিশু তার পরিবারের কাছ থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে যায়। পরবর্তীতে তিনি একটি এতিমখানায় আশ্রয় পান। সমাজকল্যাণ সংস্থার সহায়তায় সেই এতিমখানা থেকেই তাকে নরওয়েতে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। সেখানেই কেটে যায় তার জীবনের দীর্ঘ সময়।

বছরের পর বছর ধরে নিজের শিকড়ের সন্ধানে ডুলি ধীরে ধীরে তার জন্মপরিচয় ও বাবা-মায়ের বিষয়ে জানতে শুরু করেন। অবশেষে বাংলাদেশের একটি এনজিওর সহায়তায় তিনি তার মাকে খুঁজে পান এবং বহু প্রতীক্ষিত সেই সাক্ষাতের জন্য দেশে ফিরে আসেন। মা ও পরিবারের সদস্যদের কাছে পেয়ে তিনি গভীর আনন্দ ও তৃপ্তি অনুভব করেন। পরবর্তীতে তিনি আবার নরওয়েতে ফিরে যান।

কিছুদিন পর পরিবারের কাছ থেকে তিনি জানতে পারেন, তার মা আম্বিয়া খাতুন গুরুতর অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েছেন। প্রয়োজনীয় পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষার মাধ্যমে চিকিৎসকেরা জানতে পারেন, তার হৃদ্‌যন্ত্রে একাধিক ব্লক রয়েছে, যার কয়েকটি অত্যন্ত ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ অবস্থায় ছিল। উন্নত চিকিৎসার জন্য আত্মীয়স্বজনের পরামর্শে তিনি ইউনিকো হসপিটালের ক্লিনিক্যাল ও ইন্টারভেনশনাল কার্ডিওলজি বিভাগে যোগাযোগ করেন এবং অভিজ্ঞ হৃদ্‌রোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ ডা. তুনাজিনা আফরিন খান-এর তত্ত্বাবধানে চিকিৎসা শুরু হয়।

রোগীর শারীরিক অবস্থা গভীরভাবে পর্যবেক্ষণ করে দ্রুত ও সময়োপযোগী সিদ্ধান্তের মাধ্যমে জরুরি ভিত্তিতে হার্টে রিং স্থাপন করা হয়। এরপর কিছুদিন সিসিইউতে নিবিড় পর্যবেক্ষণে থাকার পর আল্লাহর রহমতে তিনি সম্পূর্ণ সুস্থ হয়ে ওঠেন।
