The department of Laboratory Medicine focuses on patient service with quality first which is a combination of offering Rapid, Accurate and Reliable diagnostic support for patient care specifically for: Management, Monitoring, Screening, Routine Health Check Up and Research.

We provide state-of-the-art reliable diagnostic services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with the high-end auto analyzers mark the spectrum of UNICO Hospital’s lab facilities.

The lab is run by a group of dedicated, highly competent and experienced consultants assisted by staffs with skilled laboratory technologists, phlebotomists and an experienced and qualified Laboratory manager to superintend the overall quality operations of both in-patient and outpatient. The lab investigation reports are reliable, valid & reproduceable and accepted both in the country and abroad. Laboratory testing is one of the most important tools in modern healthcare system for the diagnosis of diseases, founding the basis for many clinical decisions. From routine blood tests to advanced diagnostic evaluations, the Laboratory Medicine Department delivers crucial data that assistances the physicians understand the underlying causes of symptoms, monitor treatment response, and guide preventive health measures.

Lab Medicine Department of Unico Hospitals PLC Dhaka, located in level-8 of the hospital offering the following six laboratories:

  • CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY: Clinical biochemistry is one of the vital sections of the department of laboratory medicine. The bulk of investigations/tests are coming to this lab for various biochemical tests, notably: diabetic profile, protein profile, ICU profile, routine checkup package, liver function tests, renal function tests, thyroid profile, female and male hormone profiles etc.
  • HEMATOLOGY: Hematology deals with blood and blood related diseases. Under the umbrella of laboratory medicine, hematology section is dealing with the following tests and procedures by automated analyzer:

a) Complete blood count and related parameters, Reticulocyte count, Malarial and filarial parasites, Peripheral blood film/smear (PBF), Coagulation screening tests (Bleeding time [BT], Prothrombin time [PT], Activated partial thromboplastin time [APTT], Thrombin time [TT], Coagulation factor assay, Hess capillary test (Tourniquet test), Fibrin(ogen) degradation products (FDP), D-Dimer. Lupus anticoagulant, Protein C, Protein S, Antithrombin III (ATIII). Morphology study of Bone marrow aspirate.

b) Procedure: Bone marrow aspiration

  • CLINICAL PATHOLOGY :The prime concern of clinical pathology is to deal with stool, urine, semen, sputum, synovial fluid, CSF and other body fluids (pericardial, pleural and ascitic) for a good number of routine and special tests. One Automated urine analyzer is in this lab to carry out routine and special urine and body fluid analysis.
  • MICROBIOLOGY: The microbiology laboratory deals with the samples to detect infectious organisms (bacteria, fungus, parasites). After identifying the organism, drug sensitivity testing (DST) is also performed in this lab. Various culture media and automated culture detection systems are available in this department.
  • IMMUNUOLOGY/SEROLOGY: The immunology and serology department handle the serum specimens to help in the diagnosis of diseases by indirect evidences (antigen/antibody detection). In this section, also have multiple sophisticated equipment for detecting such antigens/antibodies. Name of few important tests performed in this lab are dengue antigen and antibody tests, tests for connective tissue diseases (SLE, Rheumatoid arthritis, polyarteritis nodosa), serological tests for STS etc.
  • HISTOPATHOLOGY: Histopathology lab is dedicated to provide tissue diagnosis of diseases and it is the most critical in the management of many diseases, especially the neoplastic conditions. This section has both manual and automated methods for performing the tests as well as exploit the immunohistochemistry facilities.

The ultimate goal of this laboratory is to provide a dependable, reliable, precise, accurate and reproducible report to the patients and help the clinicians in the management of disease.
