Bio Sketch:

Prof. Dr. Md. Faizus SAZZAD is a highly accomplished individual with a strong background in the field of medicine, particularly in cardiovascular surgery. Dr Sazzad is a Cardiac Surgeon with over 20 years of clinical and research experience in Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery across Bangladesh, Singapore, and internationally. After obtaining his MBBS, he underwent residency training in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery and achieved specialization in 2013. His career progressed, leading to a clinical fellowship in advanced minimally invasive cardiac surgery at the National University Hospital, Singapore. Returning to Bangladesh, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute, Dhaka, from 2016 to 2019.

When he was presented with a career opportunity at the National University Health System (NUHS), he decided to relocate to Singapore in 2019. As an Academic Cardiac Surgeon and Senior Researcher, he serves as the Research Lead for the Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery in the Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular discipline at the National University Heart Center, National University Hospital, Singapore. During this period, leveraging his extensive surgical experience—including over 4000 open-heart surgeries—he has also performed more than 200 experimental heart surgeries and several innovative cardiac procedures.

He was the surgical lead for 28 different projects related to heart surgery and the Co-PI for multiple translational research projects. He is certified under RCULA at NLARF, enabling him to perform heart surgeries beyond Singapore, especially in Paris, France; Eindhoven, Netherlands; and Minnesota, USA. His achievements include leading a team involved in the first Class III heart valve implant, “SingValve,” made in Singapore. In the past five years, he has published more than 50 research articles and received the “Inspiring Mentor Award-2020” in the National Science Research Congress. In his past role, he was an editorial member for a book on minimally invasive heart surgery and wrote multiple chapters, published by Taylor & Francis.

He is actively engaged in international collaborations, has presented at multiple national and international conferences, received several best presenter awards, and is committed to expanding global access to innovative cardiac care and aims to support “technology transfer” to provide advanced heart surgery to our native patients. His contributions have earned him recognition at national, regional, and international levels.
